SELANGOR LITERATURE AWARD CEREMONY 2021

Hadiah Sastera Selangor (HSS) 2021 award ceremony was made possible by Media Selangor for the sixth year and for the first time established a collaboration with three publishers namely Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), Svara and Tukang Puisi.
A total of 190 works published from three publishers including Selangorkini were examined by a jury panel led by Dr. Faisal Tehrani.
A total of 15 writers took home a total of RM27,000 in cash. The main winner of each category received RM5,000 while four prizes of RM1,000 each category.
The Menteri Besar of Selangor, YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar presented the prizes to the winners at the HSS 2021 award ceremony which took place at The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur.
The list of main winners for each category is as follows;
Essay Category:
Grand winner – Abdullah Hussaini (Contemplating images in poetry)
Poem Category:
Grand winner – Rasyidah Othman (God from the lonely area)
Short Story Category:
The main winner – Lokman Hakim (The clock takes off its needle that is counting)
Also present to grace the ceremony were the National Literary, Dato’ Seri Dr A. Samad Said and Dato’ Dr Mohd Anwar Ridhwan.
At the ceremony, three translated books published by the Darul Ehsan Book Initiative (IBDE) were also launched, namely Gelagat dan Ragam Orang Melayu by Frank Swettenham, Sejarah Selangor 1766-1933 (JM Gullick) and Tunku: Kelana Penuh Cinta by Kobkua Suwannathat-Pian in addition to a collection of books the work of the winner of HSS 2020 and 2021 which is Sipena V.
