RAI KARYAWAN 2021 SELANGOR LITERATURE AWARD CEREMONY

SHAH ALAM, 10 SEPTEMBER 2022 – The Selangor State Government has been organizing the Selangor Literary Prize since 2015 to dignify Malay literature and further develop the talent of writers throughout the country.

Participation is open to all citizens covering three categories, namely essays, poems, and short stories published in Selangorkini. Selangorkini is a weekly newspaper published by Media Selangor Sdn Bhd (MSSB) which is the official media of the Selangor State Government.

For the Selangor Literary Prize 2021 edition, selected works from the Dewan Sastera and Tunas Cipta published by the Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP), cultural magazine Svara and social media site Tukang Puisi were also evaluated. A total of 190 works were examined by a panel of judges led by Dr. Faisal Tehrani.

A total of 15 writers took home a total of RM27,000 in cash. The main winner of each category received RM5,000 while four prizes of RM1,000 each category.

The Menteri Besar of Selangor, YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari and Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar presented the prizes to the winners at the 2021 Selangor Literature Prize award ceremony at The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

At the event, the collection of works by the winners of the Selangor Literature Prize 2020 and 2021, Sipena V, was also launched. In addition, three translated books published by Inisiatif Buku Darul Ehsan (IBDE) namely Gelagat dan Ragam Orang Malay by Frank Swettenham, Sejarah Selangor 1766-1933 (JM Gullick) and Tunku: Kelana Penuh Cinta (Kobkua
Suwannathat-Pian).

The Selangor Literary Prize Program has been held since 2015 as a result of the inspiration of YAB Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari when he was still holding the position of Exco for Youth Development, Sports, Culture and Entrepreneurship.

The 2021 Selangor Literature Prize award ceremony is also broadcast live on YouTube SelangorTV (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMUltlIfQCA) and Facebook Media Selangor (https://www.facebook.com/MediaSelangor) for public viewing. .
